It's a mission statement, folks!
We sell time and expertise. And orchids to
crave! The weekly list of what's available
changes all the time.
We expend a great deal of time in choosing
each orchid we offer, selecting for the best -
e.g., if a given population has seven blooms
per stem we look for the few with eight or
more; if the plants are all single stems we
look for the double stems; if there is one plant
only that exceeds its fellows we may offer one
plant that week of that variety.
Our customers depend on having the best and
often as well the most unusual varieties.
Carson Barnes is known to many growers and
retailers, having been wholesaling orchids since
1992, and having been growing these most
arresting of blooming plants since 1972. Yes,
38 years' experience and knowledge at work
for you.
We handpick everything we sell, from our own
nursery and also from other growers in California.
We don't send plants we don't select personally.
So, nothing comes to you without our having seen
it, selected it, wrapped it and sent it with the closest
attention to each and every plant. See these
samples! We add value by being extremely, highly
selective. Additionally, all those years of
experience are at your service in terms
of cultural and other information, including of
course the occasional trouble shooting and
assisting in sales concepts for the really unusual
orchid. Yes, we've had to tell a customer "Here's
how you sell this one...."
Our price list changes each week, faxed
or emailed to a list of clients each week.
Information about how to care
for various kinds of orchids appears here.
We do send thousands of plants out each year,
but we know that to you, your orchids are
unique, so we treat each one, and each
customer, as unique.
Now, we wouldn't claim that the Dalai Lama is
one of our customers, but the night fragrant
orchid from Africa that graced his room in New
York City did come from us through our longest
time New York customer....
A question we ask ourselves every day: "Will this
tend to make the kind of world we'd like to live in?"
When we can honestly answer "Yes" about an
orchid which we plan to send out, we feel we've
done our job. We ask ourselves that question
many, many times each day, while caring for them,
when picking them out, when packing them up.
First come first served is how we do business.
Just be first to call or email about what you want
and it's yours. Simple. We'll hold it for your ship
day.
A few possibly useful ideas, in closing:
"Don't hide your light under a bushel basket,
there are a lot of people standing in line waiting
to do that TO you." And: "If you sell me a
racehorse, you'd best send me a racehorse."
